Got the word today through the e-grapevine.
Al Lopez Jr. (15) lost his battle with cancer the other day.
I grew up with his father, a great guy, through my teenage years. We worked together at Mobil gas station and then a steel plant when we were young. Smart guy and morally on top of everything.
I remember visiting him later when I was in my 20′s, and seeing Al Jr, and the biggest smile on Al Sr.’s face, ……”here is my son!”
His ear to ear grin stretched his face with the most genuine joy, it’s one of those things that stick with me.
I wish I would have visited him more.
I put the reverse word on the grapevine for his address in hopes that I may be able to personally offer my sympathy and hug my old friend.
The thought of losing my child is morbid, I cannot relate - except for the horror at what he is going through.
I prayed for once. For my friend.
Comfort please…. Give him the strength.
