Simply put, the health care industry isnt based on “what the market will bear.
Like most goods or services, prices are based on what the consumer can reasonably afford to pay. GM cant sell an Impala for $100,000 because no one would buy it. The consumer would instead just buy a Ford Escort for $16k.
The problem with healthcare is that there are 3rd parties (governement aid and Health Insurance companies) who are paying unreasonable and very high costs to hospitals, doctors, and drug companies. Inflated invoices are being paid not by the consumer, but coming from a deep collective well.
Dismantle HMO’s and I think the problem would be largely solved.
Just a thought.
I realize this would put alot of people out of work, but really are these people’s employment in this field part of this problem anyway?
